Bronze + Blue Sewing Guide

Bronze + Blue Sewing Guide

Madalynne’s October collection features DIY kits with sewing techniques (check out this reel on how to make that picot underwire casing!) l, a brand new color (I’m obsessed with the royal blue!), decorative trimming and variations to tried and true patterns. There are also prints that were designed in-house and printed just for Madalynne. This blog post is meant to be a guide to sewing DIY kits from the collection. Many times, when you make your Madalynne DIY kit, the product listing has been removed because it sold out, or it has been a long time. If the DIY kit is a variation of the original pattern, you may not remember what the variation was or how to do it. Don’t panic. This post will briefly outline how each kit is made and any variations. If you still have questions after reading this blog post, don’t hesitate to email hello@madalynne.com. I will do my best to help you understand how each kit was intended to be made.

Rey Longline Underwire Bra: This is a variation of the underwire bra from Madalynne’s book, Sew Lingerie, that uses the Godiva frame pattern piece to create a longline silhouette. It also exposed underwire channeling and no wide bottom band at the bottom of the bra.

Top Bra Cup: One layer of non stretch galloon lace. Cut out as per instructions. Top edge is finished with picot elastic before sewing bra cups to frame.
Lower Bra Cups: One layer of non stretch galloon lace. Cut out and sewn as per instructions.
*Please note that these DIY kits only came with non stretch lace that does not have a scallop edge, so there is no lace overlay on the frame or panty.
Frame: One layer of printed mesh lined with one layer of sheer cup lining. We combined the center front and side front frame pieces.
Back Band: One layer of printed mesh lined with one layer of stretch mesh.

*Watch this reel on how to make that picot underwire casing. This is a difficult technique so if you are a beginner, you could tuck the picot elastic underneath the underwire channeling for a similar design effect that is easier to sew.
*Watch sew along for the Godiva and the Rey on YouTube.
*Since the frame of the bra was lengthened, you will have to adjust the width of the back band so that it fits into the frame and the side seam.

Millie Panty: You could use several Madalynne patterns for the matching thong. The panty in the photos is the Millie with the underwire casing top applied to the , but the Tonika, Buffy or Odessa could be used.

Front + Back Panty: One layer printed mesh lined with one layer of stretch mesh.
*Waistline is finished with wide elastic band.

Godiva Bodysuit: This is a variation of the underwire bodysuit from Madalynne’s book, Sew Lingerie, that adds a back band, a cut out in the front, and a new sewing technique to assemble the cups. It also exposed underwire channeling.

Bra Cups: One layer of non stretch galloon lace assembled using this tutorial to show off the scallop edge. Photos also below.
Frame: One layer of printed and one layer of sheer cup lining. Cut out added to the center front and finished with fold over elastic. Since torso length can vary, I suggest marked and cutting out the length/width that will work best for your frame.
Back Band, Front Panty, Back Panty: One layer of printed mesh lined with one layer of stretch mesh. Watch Godiva bodysuit sew along to learn how to add back band pattern piece.

Madalynne X Simplicity 9833: The only variation from the original pattern is to add a wide band elastic to the bottom edge of the bra instead of wide fold over over. We did this for support since the model is very full busted with heavy/dense breasts.

Buffy + Odessa Mashup: Okay, this is going to be my favorite layering piece this fall! This is the Odessa fashion corset top with the Buffy sleeves added to it. Length was added to the bodice so it would be full length instead of cropped. The model is short, so not much length was added. Since torso length can vary, I would cross check your pattern to your body and add however much is needed/wanted.

Madalynne X Simplicity 9478, Brooklynn + Barker, and Ryann (from left to right): There are no alterations to these three styles, so I’m grouping them together. The only change was to add a decorative crochet trim to the side panels of the Brooklynn + Barker.
